Megan seemed to shrink in on herself and was unable to meet Billy’s eyes as he watched her. “I’m so sorry. If I’d known it was going to do… I had no idea it wasn’t just going to make people relax, honest!”
“I believe you,” Billy said, managing to keep his tone even. “That’s the only reason I’m still talking to you. That and I’m not exactly looking forward to explaining to my boyfriend that I slept with Julian Keller.”
“Do you have to tell him?” Megan whimpered, thinking of the havoc Teddy could cause for her if he decided that she was to blame – which, even she had to admit, she was.
“I’m not going to lie to him,” Billy told her flatly. “If I tried to keep it a secret, it’d still end up coming out eventually, and it’s turn into this big thing, and that will only make things worse. I don’t want to lose Teddy because of this.”
“But it was an accident and it wasn’t even your fault!”
“I know, which is part of why I’m going to tell him.”
“God, I am so so sorry! I just wanted everyone to relax a little. That’s what the book said the spell would do!”
Billy grunted, his lips forming a tight, thin line.
“You’ve never going to forgive me for this, are you?” Megan asked quietly, cringing away from Billy.
“Not any time soon,” Billy confirmed.
