Will looked at the thing twisting around in the tank, keeping the door behind him firmly shut as he did so. “What,” he asked Kl’rt, “is that?”
The Super-Skrull gently set the tank down as the creature wrapped around itself and watched Will with eyes that shimmered faintly. “A v’herach. It’s a pet.”
Will locked the door, just to make sure no curious children would be able to come out. “Take it back to wherever you got it.”
“This is hardly dangerous. It does not even have teeth. It’s like a…” Kl’rt fought to remember the name of a harmless Earth animal, ANY one, “a kitten.”
“The kids aren’t allowed to have kittens, either. No pets,” Will said firmly.
“There is no harm in-”
Will’s eyes glowed faintly blue as he snapped, “No pets.”
The years had slowly but surely taught Kl’rt the fine art of diplomacy (whether he liked it or not), so he tried anther tactic. “Perhaps we should discuss this with Dorrek.”
“Ted,” Will said pointedly, “is busy. And there is nothing to discuss about this. This thing is going back where you got it from.” He said this all in his ‘do not push me’ voice, a tone Kl’rt had grown far too familiar with. It made him long for the days when he could simply smash the head of any impudent wretch in like crushing a melon. Sadly, such a tactic would not have worked here in any case.
“Very well.”
He would talk to the prince later.
