Nezhno Abidemi saw the way his people looked at him and accepted them with the quiet calm with which he attempted to live his life. He could accept that his mother had moved on, marrying an acceptable man and given birth to an acceptable child. He had the strength to take this.
He did not require their acceptance. All he wanted – all he needed -- was to be left alone to…
Well, to be honest, Nezhno didn’t really know what he was going to do, or just what it was he was waiting for. But he knew that he would accept it with calm dignity. Just like he did everything else.
He had to. Otherwise he might start screaming about how utterly and profoundly unfair it was and he knew that if he started doing that, he would never, ever be able to stop.
