Sarah looked up at the women holding her hand. She sneezed, trying to shake the dirty, coppery smell out of her nose.
She could see her mother in the back of the police car, blood dotting her face and neck. She looked like she’d been splattered with paint. Her eyes were wide, the pupils so huge they almost looked black.
“Mommy?”
“Sarah, honey, please…”
