Title: Wooden Ring
Fandom: Gargoyles
Characters: Fox
Prompt: 31. Jewelry
Rating: G
Summary: The ring belonged to David’s mother.
Fox held the unadorned wooden ring in her hand, running her thumb across it’s smooth, polished surface. Petros had given it to her shortly before leaving, explaining that it had been the ring he had given David’s mother, carved from a piece of driftwood he’d found while they were courting.
The bleaching of sun and tide had turned the wood white, and the ring almost seemed to glow in the proper light.
Sometimes, Fox wondered about the woman who had worn the ring. She knew the bare, dry facts, but that wasn’t the same as actually knowing the woman.
David never talked about it. He’d been very young when she’d died.
But even an absent mother left her mark on her children.
