The apple came apart easily under her razor sharp fingers, sweet juices dribbling down to her palm. She raised the appendage to her mouth and sucked on the sweetness there. It tasted like fall, cool evenings and woods that seemed endless. It tasted like friends who laughed and teased and played, and who never, ever hurt her.
It was sweet and crisp, and it tasted like freedom.
