Johnny bit into his hamburger and chewed it slowly, mulling the question over. “I’d find a way to save Eddie,” he said. “I’d… I dunno. Keep him from going out. Or maybe go with him. Something.”
“You really liked him, huh?” Julie leaned across the table a little, propping her chin up on her hands.
“He was my best friend.”
“So you didn’t like him like him?” Julie stole one of Johnny’s fries and popped it into her mouth while the mutant choked and sputtered.
