“It’s not like home,” Hinata whispered, one hand pressed against the glass as he watched the sandstorm raging outside. She closed her eyes as Gaara’s hands closed over her shoulders. He didn’t ask her, but she could feel the question in the air. “The storms.”
Gaara’s chin rested on her shoulder. “Tell me,” he said, sounding, for a moment, very young indeed.
“There’s thunder,” she said, closing her eyes as she listened to the hiss of the sand sliding around the building. “It’s loud. When I was young, I would hide under the roof and listen to the rain hit the tiles.” She shivered as she felt her husband’s breath caress her neck.
“Tell me,” he repeated. “Tell me about the rain.”
“You can tell when it’s coming,” she went on, her breath coming a little faster. “There’s this smell, this heaviness in the air. Sometimes, right before the storm starts, it feels like you’re swimming through the air.”
His hands drifted up and down her arms before pulling her back against him. “The air in Konoha is suffocating,” he said.
“To you,” she whispered back.
