Summary: Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone.

Gaara watched the retreating dots of the Leaf-nin as they raced across the blasted landscape of Suna, a small frown crossing his face. He had thought he would be able to easily identify which one was Hnata, but they where too face away.
Somehow, the room seemed colder without her cheerful, if rather timid, presence.
Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone
It’s not warm when she’s away
He knew the Leaf-nin would return, of course, but there was no guarantee that the Hokage would send the same group. No guarantee that the Hyuuga girl would come back with the next diplomatic envoy.
Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone
And she’s always gone too long
Any time she goes away
His hand pressed against the sun-warmed glass of the round window as his eyes strained for one last glimpse of the shinobi before she was gone. One last look at her before she was sent on another mission, possibly to her death.
Wonder this time where she’s gone
Wonder if she’s gone to stay
Gaara didn’t know if he could bear that loss. He had so little warmth in his life, even now, and to go back to the frozen times he thought of as Before… that would be unbearable.
He needed to find a way to make her stay Keep her with him for always.
When the Leaf-nin were so far away that Gaara couldn’t see them at all anymore, he returned to the carefully worded letter that would soon be in the hands of the head of the Hyuuga clan.
Better leave the young thing alone
