The paper fan waved back and forth languidly as the sand shifted one way, then alother. Hinata wriggled in her seat, trying to find a position that eased her discomfort, but it was no use. Her whole body seemed impossibly swollen. She groaned softly, and Gaara poked his head into the room.
He took one look at Hinata and frowned. “Faster?” he asked, gesturing towards the paper fan.
“No, I’m fine,” Hinata insisted.
Gaara snorted. “You are a poor liar.”
Sand welled up beneath Hinata, cradling her carefully as Gaara approached. Not for the first time, he regarded her swollen belly with a mix of fear and awe. “Better?” he asked.
Hinata took a deep breath, cataloguing the aches and pains Gaara was dealing with by holding her in the sand. She nodded, and was graced with one of her husband’s all-to-rare smiles.
