All Molly could see was the fire, swallowing up the Wilder’s house and taking so much that Molly had held dear with it. She saw Chase come out of the flames, Old Lace behind him, both looking so lost and alone. She turned, burying her face in Victor’s shirt, letting it block out the sight of the flames, the stench of burning.
Victor wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly, like he was afraid she was going to slip away like smoke. “I got you,” he whispered. “I got you.”
