Summary: Teddy’s trying not to think.
Notes: Spoilers through #12 of Young Avengers
Teddy couldn’t sleep. He was sitting in his bed, in his room, in his apartment, trying not to think about how the clean sheets smelled faintly like his mother’s perfume. She must have done the laundry and changed the sheets before she went over to the Kaplans.
Before she died.
He tried not to think about that, tried not to think about how his last memories of his mother were of her being incinerated. He failed miserably. He could feel hot, salty tears running down his face. He squeezed his eyes shut, hoping that this was all some kind of dream, some nightmare. He’d go to sleep, and when he woke up Mom would be there, burning the toast because her cell phone was distracting her.
Something tapped on his window.
Teddy opened his eyes, noticing the blue glow leaking out from under his curtains. He rolled out of the bed and slunk over, opening the window. Billy was sitting on the fire escape in his pajamas. He didn’t look like he’d been sleeping either.
“I know you said you wanted some time alone-”
Teddy reached out and pulled Billy in, holding on to him tightly.
