Rowena had her youngest daughter by the back of her shirt before the young werewolf could leap on the elephant. “Don’t. Even.” she hissed in her daughter’s ear, giving her a little shake.
“I wasn’t doin’ nothin’.” Helena muttered sullenly, unable to meet her mother’s eyes.
“Child, do not try me or I will sell you to the side show.” Rowena spotted Xanthe and Agamemnon making their way towards the performers’ tents. Where they were not supposed to be. “Go, fetch.”
“Yes, Momma.” Helena was off like a shot, and Rowena went to round up the rest of the pack. She glared at the clowns as she passed them; something about those painted on smiles made her skin crawl. And of course, she found her youngest son right in the middle of the lot. “Junior! Get away from there!”
