Ursak walked around the cabin, hands clasped behind his back. Joshua stacked the last of the boxes in a corner; all his things from the palace that hadn’t been destroyed by Baron Dark and his cronies during their occupation. There wasn’t much.
Joshua wiped his hands on his thighs, giving his uncle a curious look. “Well?”
“Well what?” Ursak asked, stroking his beard. “I’m the last person to tell you not to run off to the woods, kid. I understand.” He looked out the window, up the mountain -- the volcano where Baron Dark had supposedly met his end. Nothing should have survived what had happened, but the Baron was like nothing the world had ever seen before.
Jason and Jennifer had both fought the idea of Joshua moving up to the mountain, but in the end the youngest Steele had gotten his way. The fact was, the citizens of Lumanicity were uncomfortable with the stark reminder of the Baron’s reign of terror that Joshua presented. Ursak had known that it was only a matter of time before Joshua retreated from the world.
“I’m gonna head home. You know how to reach me if you need me.”
“Thank you, Uncle Ursak,” Joshua said somberly, putting out a bowl of water for Stalker.
