But Lucian was his nephew, and his family, and he knew all too well what could happen to children who had no one else to take them. He had gotten fairly lucky, but all one had to do was look at Jeanne-Marie and know that that was no life for a child.
So while Jeanne-Marie stayed in the hospital, Jean-Paul took his nephew, pink bundle of wrinkles and pointed ears, home with him.
