“Jerrica, there’s a Misfit in the house!”
Jerrica closed her eyes, inhaling slowly through her nose before opening them again to look at Ba Nee. “What?”
The girl clung to the door frame, lovely dark eyes wide, like a deer caught in the glare of headlights. “The one with the blue hair. Stormer.”
“Stormer,” Jerrica sighed, standing. “Don’t worry, I’ll go take care of it.” She looked at the pile of paperwork on her desk. Tax forms, records of vaccinations for the girls, the absolutely terrifying water bill-
I’d rather deal with Stormer, Jerrica decided.
She didn’t have to look very hard. Kimber and Stormer were in the studio, just playing. Jerrica watched them, feeling pressure growing behind her eyes, like a headache that wasn’t ready to burst into blinding pain just yet. “Kimber?”
Kimber looked up from her keyboard, but Stormer kept playing softly, lost to everything but the music. “Your friend staying for dinner?” Jerrica asked, keeping all the other words that threatened to spill forth firmly behind her teeth. She wasn’t in the mood for a fight, not that night.
“We were gonna head out for pizza after this, actually,” Kimber said.
Stormer didn’t look up from her keytar, but Jerrica saw her worry her lower lip between her teeth. “We could order in,” she suggested. “Enough for everyone? My treat?”
Jerrica considered the offer, then sighed and nodded. “Alright.”
