Summary: Ruth isn’t used to people who can sneak up on her.
Ruth wasn’t used to people managing to sneak up on her. To be honest, thinks like that made her more than a little nervous. “Please, could you not be doing that?”
“Sorry,” Cyrus murmured, suddenly appearing to all Ruth’s senses. Her cousin had a talent for stealth in all forms, something that others seemed to find amusing for some reason. She had only known that he was there because of the cookies. “Grandmother says hello.”
Ruth drew her shawl closer around her shoulders. “Thank you for the cookies, cousin.”
“You’re welcome.” His lips brushed her cheek lightly in greeting. “You are well? You skipped the last family get together… not that I can blame you for that.”
“You pardon, please, but I am… not well liked amongst our cousins, yes.”
“Nobody in this family likes each other much. That’s the whole point.”
