“So, I love you,” Wally said. “Just in case you haven’t heard.” He played with Becca’s hair as she leaned her head against his shoulder. She smiled and sighed. “Your parents terrify me, but I love you.”
“My parents terrify everyone,” Becca pointed out. “They’re very scary people. Helps me weed out the less serious ones.” She looked up, grey eyes dark as she watched him.
“Well, I am serious.” Wally kissed the tip of Becca’s nose. “Just so you know.”
“I know.” She went back to leaning her head on his shoulder. “Sentinals burn so prettily, don’t they?”
“Like big Christmas trees,” Wally agreed.
