Robert waited for Becca to explode. There was just no way his sister wasn’t going to… not over this.
Strangely, instead of throwing him through the wall, Becca hung Kitty’s spelling test up on the fridge. “She’s a little old for this,” she shape shifter admitted, “but hell… I’m proud of her. She can live with a little embarrassment. It’s these little things I treasure.” She turned, facing her younger brother. “You’ve got a kid, and you never said a word to me.”
“Two, actually,” Robert admitted. “Bobbi Rae has a twin brother. Bobby Lee.”
“God, you…” Becca gripped the edge of the stainless steel table, leaving new finger dents in it.
“I didn’t name them!”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Robert smoothed his hair back. “The fewer people who knew, the safer they were. They never had to wonder if their best friend, or their lover, or the fucking lunch lady is an assassin, someone out to use them, or kill them. Can you even imagine living a life like that?”
“Who did you tell?” Becca asked.
“The Dads.”
“And the bitch queen you learned magic from.” Not a question.
“And her. She’s got this thing about guys who don’t take responsibility for their kids.”
“Like you?”
“Those two never wanted for anything. Hell, have you seen how happy Bobbi Rae is? Isn’t that amazing.”
“It’s damn irritating is what it is.”
