The whole team, minus Wanda, had been gathered in the meeting room. Wanda had been clear when she'd sent for them that this would be a mission so they were all already dressed in their uniforms, waiting with growing curiosity over what the situation could be. Things had been fairly quite recently, hero-wise, nothing more than the occasional fourth rate villain making a play for some attention in the last two months, certainly nothing that had required the full team's attention. Finally the door slid open and Wanda entered the room, dressed like the rest of them in full uniform.
"People, we've got a big problem," Wanda said, confident she had her team's attention.
"What's happened?" Jayna asked, her featureless mask displaying none of the worry that was clear in her voice.
"A few hours ago I sensed a great disturbance," Wanda began.
"As if millions had cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced?" Raymonde joked.
"As if someone or something of immense mystical power had forced itself into our reality," Wanda clarified, her tone making it clear she did not appreciate the joke.
"You're sure?" Ben asked, sliding down from where he'd been perched on the wall.
Wanda nodded, "It's not exactly a subtle thing. It sent shockwaves through reality itself that was probably felt by every mystic on Earth."
"How big a problem are we talking about?" David asked, leaning against the table they were gathered around.
"I'm not sure, but forcing your way through dimensional barriers isn't an easy thing to do. Whatever or whoever we're dealing with has a hell of a lot of power and is well versed in how to use it," Wanda explained.
"Has there been any word of anything strange happening?" Freddy asked.
"Not so far," Wanda replied, tapping some keys on the console in front of her, causing a map to appear on a nearby screen. "This is the area where it occurred. We're going to go and check it out. If we're lucky it will turn out to be peaceful, perhaps an explorer of some sort but if it's hostile we need to be ready to contain it until we can send it back."
"There is the possibility that there could be multiple travelers," Jayna suggested.
Wanda nodded in agreement and said, "Quite possible. We have no idea what we're getting into her so we're going to do this slowly and carefully. Hope for the best but be ready for the worst." Her gaze met each of her people, who nodded their understanding and then said, "Alright, let's do this."
