Byakuya Kuchiki stood inside the cell overlooking the Execution Grounds, looking at the place where Rukia was going to die. The view was pretty, in it’s own stark way. If things had been different, if it had been someone else going to their death, maybe he could have truly enjoyed the bleak beauty.
He wondered if his wife would forgive him for this.
He wondered if he could forgive himself for this.
But he had his orders, and his superiors had made their decision. For her actions, Rukia must die, and his own vows assured that he would send her to her death.
“I’m sorry,” Byukuya whispered, in the quiet place, where no one could hear it.
